Barrier-free travelling
Service for disabled passengers and passengers with reduced mobility.
Passengers with reduced mobility (PRM) will find the departure terminal easily accessible. All respective points of service inside the terminal are indicated by international symbols for the disabled.
Before travelling: Your special needs will be accomodated!
- Initially, you should contact your doctor whether you are fit to fly.
- Please inform your airline or your travel agency of your disability when booking your trip. That way your needs and wishes (e.g.luggage assistance, dietary needs, wheelchair, travel escort etc.) can be taken into account. The respective airline will be notified well in time and will inform the airport handling agent 36 hours in advance. You will be expected at the airport by its competent staff who will provide you with the assistance required.
- It is highly recommended to contact the airline a few days before departure to ensure that any requests made upon booking have actually been processed.
- We kindly ask you come to the airport approx. 90 minutes before departure in order to allow sufficient time for check-in, security control or necessary pre-boarding arrangements.
- It is also important to contact your airline or travel agency to inquire about special regulations or other details, e.g. the certificates of vaccination for dogs and assistance dogs. All passengers travelling with pets must be in possession of an European Pet Passport. Special regulations for the UK apply.
Getting to the airport by public bus service
- The city bus no. 2 which runs between the airport and the Railway station offers free transport of wheelchairs and is (mostly) equipped with a wheelchair ramp. More information on the bus timetable can be found on www.stadtbus.at
Parking spaces
- Disabled parking spaces are located in the multi-storey car park next to the exit between stairways C and D. All stairways are equipped with large lifts accessible for wheelchairs. All disabled parking spaces are marked with the international symbol for the disabled.
- There are more disabled parking spaces located at the short stay car park P1 in front of the main terminal.

Classifying your degree of mobility
In Order to help your airline prepare in advance to meet your needs, it is advisable to inform the airline of the degree to which you are restricted in your mobility when you book your flight.
The following standard international assistance codes should guide you in assessing your disability:
- WCHC - Wheelchair Cabin Passenger requires a wheelchair at all times, and also requires assistance inside the aircraft. Passenger has his/her own wheelchair.
- WCHS - Wheelchair Steps Passenger cannot manage stairs, but is able to walk short distances unassisted.
- WCHR - Wheelchair Ramp Passenger does not usually require a wheelchair, or requires a wheelchair only for longer distances. Can manage short stairways.
- STCR - Stretcher Passenger must be transported in a lying position.
- BLND - Blind Passagier is blind.
- DEAF Passagier with hearing impairment.
- DEAF-BLND Passagier is deaf and blind.
- DPNA: The passenger has an intellectual or developmental disability needing assistance.
The following information can be useful for classifying your degree of disability:
Generally speaking Salzburg Airport is an airport of short distances, both in the terminal and to your aircraft. If the aircraft is parked on a remote stand, transport will be provided with low-floor busses or a specially equipped minivan with a wheelchair platform. This kind of service is suitable for WCHR category.
Boarding the aircraft means to climb the steps of the aircraft and/or the airport. If you consider this impossible, you should classify yourself as WCHS or WCHC in order to ensure you receive all the assistance needed even though you are usually mobile without further assistance.
